Why Breakfast Matters And How Modern Trends Are Disrupting Our Rhythms

Breakfast used to be seen as essential- the foundation of the day, the signal that sets our internal clock. But somewhere between diet culture, trending fasting, and a fast-paced lifestyle, breakfast has been pushed aside.
And our sleep is paying for it.
Your circadian rhythm—the body’s master clock—needs signals to function properly. Morning light, movement, and food are its strongest cues. Breakfast literally tells the body:
“Wake up. Start digesting. Start producing daytime hormones.”
But now we’re skipping it. Delaying it. Ignoring it. And as a result:
Cortisol stays higher for longer
Energy dips become more dramatic
Hunger regulation goes off balance
Sleep pressure builds poorly
Evenings become wired and restless
Meanwhile, dinner has become heavier, later, richer and we are asking our bodies to digest when they’re meant to be slowing down, repairing, and preparing for sleep.
We haven’t evolved fast enough to match these lifestyle changes. Our grandparents lived in alignment with natural rhythms- daylight dictated meals, work, rest, and sleep. We are the first generations to live completely against nature… and our bodies are struggling because of it.
Bringing breakfast back is not about rules or rigidity. It’s about restoring rhythm.
A consistent morning meal helps regulate hormones, stabilise energy, support digestion, and build the sleep pressure needed for a deep, restorative night’s sleep.
Care for your body the way it is designed to be cared for.
We only get one and its rhythms are our responsibility.
